Katherine Tarver Elementary School had an existing campus building that was not adequate for the growing student population. Many of the classes were taking place in portable classroom buildings. The existing school was still in usable condition, so with some renovation work, it was incorporated into the new campus building. The idea of this school was to enclose as much of the school as possible to minimize air leakage and increase security. However, a utility easement was discovered that crossed through the middle of the building. We could not place a building over this easement, so it was used an opportunity to create a courtyard.
