Architecture is one of the oldest trades known to man. From the simple design of shelter to the opulent mansions of today, the need for those who design and build has always been in demand. Cavazos Architects began their journey in this ever evolving industry in the early 1970’s. Back then, the process of bringing a building to fruition was a monumental and taxing process. This is how the industry has evolved in the last 4 decades.
With only 2 full service architectural firms in Laredo, Laredoan Guillermo “Willie” Cavazos, AIA, partnered with architect Alfonso Leyendecker and built a strong alliance, assisting local public and private entities with their innovative design needs. Cavazos officially launched Cavazos and Associates in 1983, with offices located at 611 Hidalgo Street in the heart of downtown Laredo. Cavazos and his wife (Chacha) fondly reminisce about the start of the firm during a pivotal point of economic growth in Laredo.
As one of the city’s first architectural firms, Cavazos and Associates experienced many firsts. They were the first in Laredo to utilize AutoCAD, a computer drafting software program used to create blueprints for buildings, bridges, and computer chips, among other things.
Today, Cavazos Architects has evolved as an architectural leader in Laredo and South Texas. Their designs have won them a fair share of awards from esteemed state and national organizations and affiliations. With Laredo’s continued growth spurt, Cavazos Architects is expanding to stay on track and best meet the needs, wants, and desires of current and future clients.
